I love you; its a fever dream

This week has been kind of full.

Tonight is the first night I've been at home since Wednesday last week. On Thursday's we visit Polly's mum. On Friday we drove to Manchester...

It took seven freaking hours! It should take four. And when I say we drove I mean I. I shouldn't moan because we were in Manchester for something I wanted to do. I wanted to go and see Of Monsters and Men, I've seen them before at Glastonbury but never on their own tour. I absolutely love them, I really like Coldplay (haters are just jealous they can't be in a band as tight as Coldplay; plus Chris is one of the nicest humans ever) and Foo Fighters but I love Of Monsters and Men.

Now, I know you might be reading this saying, "Well they're first album is great, and the second is good, and their third is... meh". I agree, but there are some great tracks; Alligator, Vulture Vulture and Wild Roses... but when they play live, they are every bit eccentric and folky and the Of Monsters and Men you heard the first time around. And every single fan in that venue knew it. I'm a huge fan of singing along, even although I am terrible singer. I literally don't understand those people who turn up and stand still and take it seriously. Enjoy yourself, let go, dance and sing! That is exactly what everyone did in Manchester on Friday night. Hearing everyone sing,

"Wake me up, I'm fever dreaming!"

in the middle of the first song, and that atmosphere carrying throughout the evening was perfect.

I had plans to show Polly the centre of Manchester the first afternoon we got there, and do a little shopping and walk around before the gig. Unfortunately our time got drained by the traffic on the way up, and the fact that Tiger had woken me at 6am to throw up, so we left an hour later than we should have. I wanted to take her to Salford and show her Media City, and Old Trafford, and The Imperial War Museum of the North, and maybe the Lowry Centre- but I didn't get time. In the end we ate dinner at Premier Inn- desperate times, desperate measures- and went straight to the gig, then we went to The Alchemist. My favourite cocktail spot- have a smoky old fashioned and then tell me you don't like whisky. We did our shopping in the rainy northern city of Manchester, Polly found not one but two comic book shops and I liked the independent one. I found a game I want to play; I like co operative board games, and I have found a new one I hope Santa Claus brings for me. It's called Escape the Dark Castle. Walking around with soaking wet trench feet, we eventually stopped for a rest in Central Perk cafe. Polly loved it, she loves Friends and it was great having a hot chocolate (coffee is gross) and cake there. They played the Friends theme tune every ten minutes- I guess it's so everyone hears it. I wanted the Central Perk Manchester t-shirt, but it was £12!!

Saturday night we spent getting lost along A roads between Bristol and Sherborne, trying to get to the Fireworks but it didn't happen. We missed the display, but we did get to give both kiddos their birthday presents. My cousin each year does a display for her sons birthday as he was born on November 5th. I think I have been to every one so far. Apparently I didn't miss much this year, my cousin Chris didn't almost set himself on fire, and nothing hit the house. A shame.

Back to work for two days, Sunday and Monday. A 41st birthday party- burgers near where I worked- for our head chef. Only the finest employees were invited, as well as theirs and their best friend's kiddos. I had a creamy chilli burger that had Greek yogurt on it, and was surprisingly undisgusting. It was the first work trip I've been out on in 20 months of working there. I really like our chef, tho', he is one of the biggest teddy bears.

Monday was driving up to Bristol in a hurry after work, and seeing the teensy Aurora. She is just amazing. I love her world view, and her dancing, she is both child like and strong. The crowd was not as fun as at Of Monsters and Men but we still had a great time. Its amazing how two gigs can be so different. We went and got food at Wok 2 Walk after, and when we came back people were waiting outside for her... we however decided to go home, it was a 2hr drive. Altho' seeing her cute little smile with those that did wait, I felt that pull at my heart.

Today is Tuesday, and I am tired. I get really tired quickly because of the cancer. The treatment makes your body tired, and more so than usual. Tuesdays usually mean cooking for me, but today I just prepped and Polly cooked. I prepped our stir fry for tonight, and tomorrow I'm slow cooking goulash. I love cooking, its my favourite but today I was too tired.

On the note of tired, I must go to bed, my eyes are a-closing...

You're Grounded... How to Survive Lockdown

If you live in the UK you will know that, without using the word "lockdown", our Prime Minister grounded us for three weeks starting today. I know it sounds hard, being stuck at home without working for three weeks. I know only being allowed out to buy food, or medicine sucks. I know that going out for exercise once a day alone or with your household sounds hard, and it can be. However I am here to make it easier for you. I have some experience in losing your independence for an extended period of time. I am two years cancer free, and that time has flown by. I am confident there are things we can all do to pass the time and not cause ourselves unnecessary stress so here is my list of how to survive being locked down 1. Don't Panic "In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry and was widely regarded as a 'bad move'"- Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy In the words of Douglas Adams, "don't panic". Panic...

No More Hashtags

2020, take a workshop! You do not put devastating fires, killer wasps, a pandemic, economic crisis and the worlds largest civil rights movement into the first six months... what have you got planned for the rest of this year?  In case you really are on a foreign planet reading this the title of this post, "no more hashtags" is my way of saying no more deaths in black community at the hands of the people charged with protecting the general public. Each person who has died becomes a hashtag to get their names out into the world and get justice for that person. Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and of course, Breonna Taylor are the names on the world's lips at the moment. If you don't know those names, where have you been? Why am I, a white person, writing this post on black lives matter? I have learnt this week that we should having uncomfortable conversations with our friends and family and I honestly believe the only way some people will access the things I have learnt ove...
