Weekend Lockdown Plans... I've Got You

It's the weekend, hooray!!

Oh wait, we're all stuck in lock down, no trips to the pub with your mates, or to zoos with the kids or to visit that museum exhibit that finally arrived.

So what can you do...? Tons of entertainment venues and entertainers are live streaming. Be that a pub, zoo, museum

Virtual Pub Quizzes

Get the beers in the fridge and gather your team (that'll be the people that live in your house, please don't invite your friends around)... The Free Trade Inn, Byker Newcastle did one on Wednesday & We Are FSTVL did on Thursday. Why not join the event page for the Friends Virtual Quiz at 19.30(GMT) Friday evening?

Visit the Zoo

In the UK & Ireland 4 zoos are livestreaming for your viewing pleasure. You can visit Edinburgh Zoo's koalas, and Marwell's flamingos. Dublin Zoo are streaming their African Savannah, Penguins, and Elephants. Paignton zoo are also showing flamingos, as well as Sulawesi Macque, and Meerkats.

If zoos aren't you thing and you prefer wildlife you can check out Living Coasts conservation charity's penguins who get fed at 10.30 and 2.30 daily.

Puppies

Y'all have heard of cat cafes... make yourself a cuppa and get comfy on the sofa and watch these puppy streams instead.

Museums

Fancied wandering around a gallery or museum this weekend? You still can.

Get yourself to the British Museum's online exhibit. Go on your Italian Adventure with the Pinacoteca di Brera, The Vatican and Uffizi. Take yourself back in time with Greece's National Archaeological Museum. Check out Madrid's 200 year old Prado Museum. Visit the Louvre in Paris without the crowds. Go across the pond and check out the Met's online collection. Whilst you're in the US you can check out Washington's National Gallery of Art- this website even has an interactive family section for the kiddos including an iPad app! Lastly St. Petersburg's Hermitage Museum has a ton of interesting exhibits to check out.

Theatre

The Barn Theatre, Cirencester have launced a streaming service called Behind the Barn Door so you can be entertained by them from the comfort of your own sofa. Whilst it's not for me there is also opera available to you. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra are offering a free subscription, a mixture of archived material and live concerts. The New York Met Opera are offering free daily streaming of their opera's and the Paris Opera are offering its ballets and operas for free!

Musicians

Keep an eye on your favourite bands instagram's. Aurora has been live streaming songs that people have been picking out and her set is being live streamed from Verftet Festival Sunday at 8PM. Coldplay's Chris Martin did an instagram live concert. As have John Legend, Pink, & Brandon Flowers from the Killers Lizzo is always entertaining. Check out this Irish band who built a pub to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and play their gig. As well as that two entertainer friends of mine will be live streaming from their home on Sunday singing 60s, 70s & 80s hits if that's your thing, click here for more info!

Whatever you do this weekend, make sure you Stay At Home and make the above team's job easier.
Stay safe, stay home.

You're Grounded... How to Survive Lockdown

If you live in the UK you will know that, without using the word "lockdown", our Prime Minister grounded us for three weeks starting today. I know it sounds hard, being stuck at home without working for three weeks. I know only being allowed out to buy food, or medicine sucks. I know that going out for exercise once a day alone or with your household sounds hard, and it can be. However I am here to make it easier for you. I have some experience in losing your independence for an extended period of time. I am two years cancer free, and that time has flown by. I am confident there are things we can all do to pass the time and not cause ourselves unnecessary stress so here is my list of how to survive being locked down 1. Don't Panic "In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry and was widely regarded as a 'bad move'"- Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy In the words of Douglas Adams, "don't panic". Panic...

No More Hashtags

2020, take a workshop! You do not put devastating fires, killer wasps, a pandemic, economic crisis and the worlds largest civil rights movement into the first six months... what have you got planned for the rest of this year?  In case you really are on a foreign planet reading this the title of this post, "no more hashtags" is my way of saying no more deaths in black community at the hands of the people charged with protecting the general public. Each person who has died becomes a hashtag to get their names out into the world and get justice for that person. Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and of course, Breonna Taylor are the names on the world's lips at the moment. If you don't know those names, where have you been? Why am I, a white person, writing this post on black lives matter? I have learnt this week that we should having uncomfortable conversations with our friends and family and I honestly believe the only way some people will access the things I have learnt ove...
